Devizes 27 Bath Saracens 52

Royal Wootton Bassett 3rds - 22nd April 2017

Bath Saracens picked up another five points away from home when they travelled to Devizes for their latest Dorset & Wilts league fixture. The hosts were several players short, however Sarries had travelled with a full squad and were able to lend enough players to ensure that the game was able to start with two full XV’s. This provided an excellent opportunity for coach Dean Taylor to try out players in different positions, and ensure that everybody who travelled to Devizes had a good run out. The Sarries players on loan gave a good account of themselves throughout, and provided a healthy contribution to the host’s points tally!

Sarries secured the try scoring bonus point before half time, touching down five times, before adding a further three after the break. Centre Danny Hawkins led the way with a brace, while there were further scores from; Jack Goodfriend, Alex Reilly, Pete Astley, Owen Swabey, Eddie Bell, and Alex Caffreys-Gage who was making his league debut. Skipper Reilly added six successful conversions.

The game ended on a sombre note as one of the Devizes players suffered what appeared to be a serious injury in the closing minutes. The club wishes him well for a full and speedy recovery.

This weekend sees Sarries host second placed Warminster at the Sulis club. We hope to be rolling out our new home kit, which has been made possible through the generosity of our new sponsors BMT. It would be great to see a good number of supporters on the touch line!
