Bath Saracens picked up another bonus point win in their first home fixture of the New Year.
With the strong breeze behind them and confident after recent performances, the hosts were soon into their stride. 4 first half tries and a penalty kick saw them reach the break with a try bonus point already in the bag and a healthy 29 – 0 lead.
In the second half with the elements against them, Sarries found the going far tougher. The visitor’s heavier forwards put their opponents under constant pressure, however as in recent weeks the home side’s well organised defence stood firm. The game had reached the final quarter when visitors finally got their first points onto the scoreboard, however Sarries quickly replied with their 5th try and a second successful penalty kick.
Late in the game a flurry of yellow cards saw the hosts down to 13 players, and Bradford took full advantage to grab their 2nd try. However shortly afterwards, the hosts had the last say with their 6th and final touchdown.
While the score line looked a little one-sided, this was a very well contested and entertaining game, with both sides deserving full credit for their performance.
Sarries tries were scored by Ed Bell (2), Todd Jones, Pete Baldwin, Mike Fordham, and Owen Swabey, with fly half Jones adding 4 conversions and 2 penalties. Prop Tom Fordham was awarded man of the match.
Sarries face Chippenham 3rds away in 2 weeks time.
