VP Stories 9 – Bill McNaughton

A short VP story this week from Bill NcNaughton, who played for Bath Saracens between 1965 and 1972. If you have any rugby stories you’d like to share, please send them to us at mail@bathsaracens.co.uk

I started playing in the season 65/66, Mel Williams was Captain and then Pete Coombes took over in 66/67. I didn’t have anything to do with the committee in the first 2 years but took over the Secretary’s role in 67/68. When I finished in 71/72 a certain Mike York took on the role.

During my time as Secretary I also doubled as Social Secretary organising dances etc and the first of the Annual Dinners held at the Edinburgh Castle with Pete Sibley, Captain of the Bath club, and Gerry Moore, a local referee and member of Walcot, as the speakers.

I stopped playing in Feb. 71 after yet another ankle injury but still managed to go on the Easter tour to Plymouth with my leg in plaster.
